My Birth Story

We checked in at 6:30. After getting me all set, putting in the IV and taking blood samples, the doc. arrived the start the induction. He told me, we will try this, and if nothing happens, we will send you home for a couple days. I laughed and told him, I'm not going home! The induction started at 7:15 and I had to stay in bed for two hours to let the pill do it's work.

At 9:30, Mike and I started walking around the hospital. I was starting to have a few contractions but they weren't very strong. The doc checked me at 10:30 (?) and there really wasn't much change, so we kept walking. This time, I could barely make it down the hallway because the contractions were getting so strong. We went back in the room around noon and my l&D nurse checked me. She wasn't sure how dialated I was, so she called in another nurse who thought I was about 6 cm. They called for the epi after that and it took the man FOREVER to get there! During this time my contractions got really strong. I was sitting in the bed to begin with, but kept moving around trying to make it better. After a while I just stood up and held on to Mike. The guy finally arrived and gave me my epi. The pain in my stomach was gone, but I was still having a little back labor and I really felt how low the baby was, and wanted to push pretty bad. They kept telling me I couldn't because I wasn't 10 cm yet.

When the doc checked me about 2:00 I was still 9 cm. So for an hour I sat in the bed, trying not to push. Had I been able to move my legs, I would have put them together in order to keep the baby in.

Finally at 2:55 I started pushing. I was really trying hard to get the baby out. I was screaming and yelling because I had never felt this urge before. With Landon I had a different epi and couldn't feel anything. At one point I looked up and saw 3 student nurses standing in the back of the room, smiling. So much for privacy! LOL.

At 3:03, after 8 minutes of pushing, the doctor handed me a healthy beautiful baby girl. All I could say was, "I did it. I did it all by myself." I was so happy to have it done.

Mike took her picture on his camera phone and sent it to anyone he could think of. We called the grandmas and when they wheeled me out of the delivery room my mom, sister and Landon were standing there waiting for us.

I was so happy with how smoothly everything went! I only hope my next delivery goes as well!
